PRESS

Here’s some of the things the press have said about us:

Vantage Magazine
Ethical Address Book

'When it comes to green living in the capital, North West London leads the way, says Lauren Romano... At Hampstead grocery shop Melrose and Morgan provenance is king. Homemade jams and pickles are sold alongside organic and free-range meat and poultry, as well as fresh fruit and vegetables, delivered straight from small, mainly British producers, by electric van.'

MSN Food
Mince pies: tasted and rated

Our mince pies were given a major thumbs up by the MSN Food team who rated them second, by only one point, to Peyton and Byrne in a blind tasting of ten nationwide competitors, 14 December 2011:
'These look amazing - and like they should be full of pork! They look like a farmhouse delight' - James. 'Intriguingly they look like mini meat pies, but are too large to justify a second or third! Richly spiced and sweet pastry made them different - in a good way' - Anna. 'Rich, glazed, enclosed top. Looks rustic and handmade, quite savoury. Tastes like a bourbon - it's quite boozy, right level of sweetness' - Craig. 'Slightly different presentation but the filling was glorious' - Poorna. 'Nice and light, the mincemeat has a delicate flavour - lovely and moist!' - Nik.

Sunday Times Style
Let The Feast Begin
Martha Swift, our neighbour from the Primrose Bakery says our Mince Pies are “just right” in the Sunday Times Style magazine’s roundup of the best Christmas suppliers, 27 November 2011:
'The mince pies at Melrose and Morgan are delicious and fresh every day, with just the right combination of filling and pastry.'

Sunday Telegraph Food and Drink

You must have gone native) can alternatively pre-order from Melrose & Morgan’s delis in Primrose Hill or Hampstead by 5pm on November 20, where they can pick up the full works to takeaway. Looks like there’s a lot to be thankful for.'

Vantage Magazine
'There are two delicious Melrose and Morgan grocery shops and kitchens within north west London, both of which have a deservedly loyal following. The homely delicatessens serve a range of fresh produce... and they are a great place to catch up over lunch with friends. However, jars of MM goodness are now available for home delivery. Choose from marmalades flavoured with citrus and honey, traditional winter vegetable piccalilli or ruby red beetroot chutney.'

Maryportas.com
'Melrose and Morgan catered for the opening of my Living & Giving shop in Primrose Hill – home made miniature sausage rolls followed by mountains of absolutely divine mince pies (it was the week before Christmas). Their shop design, branding, customer service, and local sourcing policy are all a masterclass in how to run a modern grocery.'

The Sunday Telegraph Stella Magazine
Lady Marmalade
'Diana Henry was wary about making citrus preserves - till she had a lesson from the marmalade master at Melrose and Morgan...'

The Jellied Eel: London's Magazine for Ethical Eating
'According the Nick, the idea behind Melrose and Morgan is "to recreate the feel of a farmers' market seven days a week." Albeit a small and stylish one - with artfully mismatched Victorian tiles and shelves, and doors hewn from recycled cheeseboards and vintage school desks. A commitment to quality and sustainable and local food is reflected in the standard of the produce. All the meat is free-range and organic, the same goes for eggs and milk.'
Clare Hill, Winter 2010

North West Magazine
Three of the Best: Christmas Puds
'Melrose and Morgan, £14.95. Fragrant with quinces and dried figs. Non-pudding lovers should also try the boozy clementine trifle, £19.95.'

My Delicious Life

'Lyn Harris, founder of the perfume and lifestyle brand Miller Harris. My big indulgence at the weekend is toast and jam.... and I pile it high with my favourite jam, which is currently the mouthwatering damson from Melrose and Morgan. It's my Saturday- and Sunday-morning ritual and is absolutely delicious washed down with a cup of my tea.'

Hello Hampstead

'It was back in 2004 that Melrose and Morgan opened in Primrose Hill; since then this grocery shop and kitchen has become something of an institution and now the residents of Hampstead Village get the chance to see what all the fuss is about with the second outlet in Oriel Place. They really are worth a try!'

Fabric Magazine
Seasonal Seasoning

'It's not just the fashions that change from season to season...We called into Hampstead's newest deli to update our menu ideas. Experiment with flavoured vinegars, the most versatile of condiments: use them to dress salads, drizzle over grilled goats' cheese perk up a sauce or spice up a stock. They can even be added to drunks to for an extra kick. Try making your own by steeping soft fruits, herbs and spices in vinegar (cider, white win or rice vinegars work best). When you're happy with the flavour, pass the mixture through a jelly bag and discard the flavourings and, if required, sweeten with sugar or honey.'
