May 2010
Some of you may have heard that we've been a little bit busy recently, due to the imminent opening of a new shop. So apologies for being rather quiet in the past couple of months. To bring you all up to date we are branching out and opening a second shop in Hampstead village. The builders are on-site and doing a great job in renovating the wonderful Oriel Hall in Oriel Place. For those of you familiar with Hampstead Village, the site is located in one of the alleyways that connects Heath Street to Hampstead High Street. If all goes to plan we should be opening our doors in the first week of June. If you want to keep up to date with our progress please subscribe to our email list and we will advise you once we have opened.

Thanksgiving Menu
We've been terribly remiss in not keeping you up to date with all our news. Suffice to say we've been busy keeping everyone fed and happy. (or at least we hope happy!) Anyway, it's time to do some more celebrating, with Christmas just around the corner, we'll be letting you all know shortly about our Christmas plans. Meanwhile for those of you celebrating Thanksgiving, we have a special menu which we will be preparing.
You can download a copy of it here.

English Cherries are here and we've been and picked nearly 200kg from 6 trees in East Sussex. Late last year we saw a scheme which allows you to "rent a cherry tree", so we did and we are now the proud owners of copious amounts of ripe cherries. You can buy them in the shop this weekend, we'll be turning the remainder into a cherry compote, cherry jam and bottling lots in Kirsch ready for Christmas.
Regents Park Honey is now back in stock. We have just received our first delivery of this years honey and thanks to the good weather we are hoping for a bumper crop.
May 2009
With all the sunny weather doing wonders for our gardens and our growers, asparagus is now in full flow. We're also getting lots of compliments for our Isle of Wight tomatoes which arrive freshly picked each week. Elderflowers can't be too far away and we'll be taking advantage and preparing some of our own cordial in due course.
Our shop table also has a distinctly Spring feel to it, making the most of the new season's vegetables and fruits.
Hay Fever sufferers have been buying our local Regent's Park Honey in large quantities and as a result we are starting to run low on last year's stock. All being well the new season's honey should be with us towards the end of June.
In May and June we are holding a series of customer evenings at the shop. We are inviting some of our favourite suppliers and producers along to talk about their products and share their knowledge. We have an organic and biodynamic wine tasting evening, another all about Regent's Park Honey, a tea tasting and a very indulgent Chocolate evening. You can download more information by
On a final note we shall be open on Bank Holiday Monday 4th May between 9am and 4pm.
Easter 2009
As Easter approaches we have the first signs of Spring in the air. Wild garlic leaves are starting to come through and you'll find them in some of our table dishes. The first English asparagus has arrived, it's very early and has been 'fleeced" to encourage early growth. It's worth waiting a couple more weeks before the standard crop arrives. For Easter we have a wonderful range of handmade chocolate Easter eggs, from our Chocolatier Madame Oiseau and our friends at the Chocolate Society.
Our Easter Opening times are as follows:
Good Friday 9am - 4pm
Easter Saturday 8am - 6pm
Easter Sunday and Monday CLOSED
March 2009
From 1st March our opening hours are changing slightly. We will now be closing at
7pm from Monday to Friday. All other times remain the same. You can see our full
opening hours under the CONTACT section of our website.

Claybarn Orchard English Quinces...... have now arrived and are available to buy at £6.00 per Kg.
The quince is a Mediterranean fruit of great antiquity which was introduced into the UK in 1573. Quince was the original fruit used in marmalade and has been a perennial favourite in gardens, not only for the fruit which is golden when ripe, but for the beauty of the tree and its flowers in Spring. Stand a quince on a shelf in your kitchen and enjoy its powerful fragrance.
It can be used in cooking in many ways - for jelly and jam; for a subtle flavour add a few slices to an apple pudding and to stuffing for meat and game dishes. It takes longer to cook than an apple, so should be sliced more thinly and par-cooked.
We'll be making chutney, adding to fruit and almond tarts and making compote's to accompany breakfast or serve alongside meat.
Clay Barn Farm is a small orchard on the Essex coast run by Charles and Shirley Trollope and their son Alastair. Sadly, due to overwhelming market forces, they gave up the struggle of growing apples and now specialise in in producing quality quinces.
Try them!
